Greg Scallion to entertain at BBQ
Whispering Knoll Assisted Living on the Davis Life Care Center campus in Pine Bluff will be the site of a barbeque cook off pitting the talents of representatives from the other Davis Life Care Center care giving facilities, Davis East, Davis West, and Garden Pointe Assisted Living. The cook off will start at 10:00 a.m. and run through 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 18 says Nina Hunt, administrator of Whispering Knoll.
Local barbeque enthusiast Jim Varnell will bring his giant “Smokin’ Loco” grill for the event. Varnell and his sons built the trailer mounted smoker. He compete in BBQ contests and caters with the 9,800 pound unit, which now has about 20,000 miles on it.
“This event is the culmination of our celebration of National Assisted Living Week , the week of September 13,” Hunt said. “All four Davis Life Care care giving centers will compete for bragging rights as the “barbeque kings of Davis Life Care Center.” The public is invited to the event. Special guest Doug Scallion will provide entertainment.
This year, Assisted Living Week begins Sunday, September 13th – which is also Grandparent’s Day – and runs through Saturday, September 19th. AALA will kickoff the week with its annual Fall Meeting, scheduled for Friday, September 11th, at the Holiday Inn Presidential in Little Rock.
“We’re honored to have Governor Beebe provide opening remarks at the AALA Fall Meeting,” said Elizabeth Blankenship, Arkansas Assisted Living Association Board President. “National Assisted Living Week is a great time for us to highlight our growing communities, and to focus on providing even better services to our residents and family members.”
